Somebody had sewn my pockets shut. I overheard the slurs of hateful little birds. The broken furniture piled on the sidewalk made for sullen fires. I took a piss against a wall, a wrinkled woman looking over my shoulder. The names of old friends ceased to sound familiar. Pale angels in dark glasses sat on the end of the loading dock, swinging their feet and waiting.
