We accept and read original, unpublished submissions all year. We intend to publish 6 online issues per year, with the deadline for each issue falling on the 15th of the month prior to the issue’s publication.
We’re Looking For:
Great fiction with a focus on characters, dialogue and interesting situations. We want to see flash fiction (up to 1,000 words), short stories (up to 3,500 words) or poetry. We’re most interested in odd characters, strange behaviors and great dialogue (even if the dialogue is internal).
We’re open to all genres and experimental formats. We’re also interested in refreshing points of view.
We’re Not Looking For:
Talking head pieces. While we love great dialogue, we don’t want a cookie cutter talking head piece. Basically, if your characters are interchangeable and we see nothing but dialogue, you have a talking head piece.
Guidelines:
Flash Fiction, Short Stories or Poetry, up to 3,500 words. (If your story is slightly longer, send it anyway.)
Include your name (and pseudonym, if any), website (if you have one), and a short bio in the body of your email.
Email submissions as an attachment in .doc, .rtf, or .txt file. No specific formatting instructions, but please use your better judgment. (Don’t send us a document with a neon green background and bright orange text.)
Email all submissions to contact@speechbubblezine.com with “Submission: (Your Work’s Title)” in the subject line. Please also note whether the submission is a poetry or story submission in your subject line. We try to respond to all submissions within three weeks.
Please attention fiction submissions to Washington Winters, Matthew Brennan or Elijah Toten.
Attention all poetry submissions to Jenna Bowman.
